Bloom Science Summer Internship

Bloom Science’s 2023 Summer Internship Program is a paid 8 week internship for an advanced high school or undergraduate looking to gain experience in the biotechnology industry. Our program is designed to provide hands-on laboratory experience and the opportunity to develop professional skills and establish career networks and mentors.
Program Areas of Focus

Microbiology

The project will be focused on isolation of microbial strains from our clinical samples for a Bloom Science drug discovery project.

Computational Biology

The project will focus on data analysis, e.g., microbiome and other omics data, from projects spanning both internal and public datasets.

Translational Science

This project will focus on research supporting the translational activities of Bloom’s lead programs.

Business Development

This program will gain insight and exposure into the decision-making process and strategic planning of the company while also developing an understanding of the company’s overall vision, mission, and values.

Essential duties and responsibilities for laboratory and computational internships

  • Accurate recording of experimental setup and findings
  • Frequently present ongoing or completed experiments to project team members and direct supervisor
  • Adhere to common EH&S and safe work environment practices
  • Work will be performed onsite at Bloom’s location in San Diego; 20-30 hours per week
  • Perform all duties in keeping with the Company’s core values, policies and all applicable regulations
Key Qualifications
If High School Student:
Completed Biology and Chemistry courses

If Undergraduate Student:
Current undergraduate student with major declared in the field of Biology or Science related field

General
Critical-thinking skills, self-motivation, and a strong drive for mastery

Highly adaptable to daily workflow changes

Utilizes rapid problem-solving to excel in a high failure rate environment

Demonstrated ability to achieve goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Strong learning orientation, curiosity, and passion for science and patients

Essential duties and responsibilities for art internships

  • Generate weekly visual art projects based on or discovery research
  • Frequently present ongoing or completed projects to team members
  • Work may be performed onsite at Bloom’s location in San Diego; 20-30 hours per week
  • Onsite only
  • Perform all duties in keeping with the Company’s core values, policies and all applicable regulations

Key Qualifications

Interest in utilizing art to communicate science concepts

Able to provide a small digital portfolio of prior work

Self-motivation, and a strong drive for mastery

Highly adaptable to daily workflow changes

Demonstrated ability to achieve goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Strong learning orientation, curiosity, and passion for art and science

Eligibility

Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Must be able to commit to the full 8 week time frame.

Must be entering junior or senior year in high school or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
